FIVE reasons you should love Gerwyn Price:

1. He has only been playing professional darts for six years.
Once a rugby player, he represented Wales at all age-groups throughout his youth. He forged a relatively successful career in the Welsh Premiership before injuries made him re-evaluate his position. When reflecting on his decision to change sports he coolly once said, “I just had to make a decision to change so I jacked in the rugby and had a crack at this.” Now 2nd best in the world, you’d probably call that a good career move.

2. He is the most improved darts player in the world.
The PDC Order of Merit says that Gerwyn Price sits behind Rob Cross in third place. Sadly, that doesn’t consider that just 18 months ago, Gerwyn was a competitive, if unspectacular, name still trying to make his way in the sport. A win in the 2018 Grand Slam of Darts catapulted him to success and he hasn’t looked back. He defended that title last month with a stunning defeat of Michael van Gerwen on route to the final.

3. Gerwyn has rattled Gerwen!
The man dubbed the ‘Iceman’ beat Michael van Gerwen last month, but the Dutchman has dismissed any rivalry. After gaining revenge in the Players Championship, MVG said, “he (Gerwyn) first needs to start winning a little bit more, I think he’s only won two tournaments so far. I’ve won more than 150 PDC titles.” We are loving the rivalry and it is certainly bringing out the best in MVG. He does sound a little bit threatened though, doesn’t he?

4. Everyone loves a bad boy gone good.
Despite protesting his innocence, Gerwyn Price has courted the boos wherever he has gone. From over-zealous celebrations after his Grand Slam of Darts win against Anderson last year, to clashing with Simon Whitlock, he has always been a controversial figure. The latter incident even incurred a £20,000 fine, subsequently halved on appeal. “At the beginning, I didn’t mind the boos, but it went too far.” Since then, his behaviour has improved drastically, and his fan base is growing rapidly.

5. When he wins, you will get paid out at 11/2.
We are sick and tired of Michael van Gerwen winning all and sundry (don’t ask us why, we are just a simple bookmaker!). As a ‘Gezzy prezzy’ for all our members, we are going to offer a standout price for Price!
